KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has said quality training forms the foundation of a strong police force and announced that two international-standard police training centres will be established in the province, and PC-1 recommendations will be submitted at the earliest.
He made this announcement as he attended as chief guest a ceremony at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Centre, Razzaqabad, on Thursday. The event included the inauguration of various development projects, along with a special session marking the completion of an elite training course. Officials said that on this occasion, Sindh IGP Javed Alam Odho, the additional IG and DIG Training, DIGs of SSU, East, and other senior police officials were also present.
Upon arrival, Home Minister Lanjar was received by the DIG training, the Commandant Razzaqabad, and other officers, while a smartly turned-out police contingent presented him with a guard of honour.
Lanjar inaugurated several newly constructed and upgraded facilities at the training centre, including the Anti-Riot Hall, Residential Block “C” for trainees, the upgraded firing range, and a newly constructed road connecting Block “C” with the main sections of the facility. Addressing the ceremony, the home minister said the addition of modern facilities at the Razzaqabad Police Training Centre would further strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of the training system.
Congratulating the participants on successfully completing the elite training course, he emphasized that professional training plays a fundamental role in enhancing the capabilities of any force. He highlighted that training aligned with modern requirements is essential for building an effective and competent police force. He appreciated the dedication, commitment, and professional expertise of the trainers, acknowledging their role in imparting high-quality training to the personnel. During the ceremony, trainees demonstrated their professional skills through practical exercises, which were highly appreciated by the attendees.
Lanjar also witnessed a practical demonstration by the Anti-Riot Platoon and praised the professionalism of the personnel. He commended the Commandant Erum Awan for her outstanding work, noting visible improvements compared to previous training phases. He attributed this success to the collective efforts of the additional IG training, DIG training, and the Commandant Razzaqabad, who worked effectively as a team.
He expressed his satisfaction after witnessing the practical demonstrations, stating that such training is an effective measure for managing violent crowds and rioters. He added that the Government of Sindh is committed to aligning the police force with international standards. He further said that directives from the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and the Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah emphasize the need to modernize police training in line with contemporary demands. Provision of facilities to Sindh Police is essential for ensuring sustainable peace, law and order, and development in Karachi, he stressed.
Lanjar said maximum facilities would be provided to the Sindh Police. He noted improvements in the riverine (Katcha) areas and credited police personnel for these achievements. While acknowledging existing challenges, he expressed confidence in overcoming them successfully. IGP Javed Alam Odho said training holds fundamental importance and that continuous efforts are underway to further modernize and strengthen the training system within the Sindh Police. He stressed that high-quality training ensures a strong and professional police force.
Highlighting the importance of anti-riot training, he stated that professional competence is crucial in handling challenging and emergency situations. He congratulated the officers and personnel associated with training and appreciated their performance. He added that efforts are ongoing under a comprehensive strategy to transform the Sindh Police into a fully professional force. Under the guidance of the Government of Sindh and the home minister, the police force is being developed along modern lines. He further stated that SSU and RRF have been developed as modern and specialized units, and similar efforts are being made to align the training system with contemporary standards. He reaffirmed the commitment to introducing further innovations in the training system to enhance the overall performance of the Sindh Police.
