KARACHI: Karachi police chief Azad Khan on Thursday took notice of a video that went viral on social media, showing lapses in security at the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC).
Officials said that on the orders of the additional IG Karachi, the AVLC SSP suspended police personnel from District East with immediate effect.
The action followed the circulation of a video highlighting the absence of security staff at the main gate of the DSP East AVLC office. Those suspended include ASI Asim Masood, Reader to DSP AVLC, and Constable Nadeem Yousaf, who was serving as a sentry at the DSP East office.
A departmental inquiry has also been initiated. The DSP Admin AVLC has been appointed as the inquiry officer and is expected to submit a report within three days.
Separately, Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan chaired a meeting at the Karachi Police Office to review the performance of traffic checking points and the overall traffic situation in the city. Senior officers, including the DIG Traffic and district SSPs (Traffic), attended the meeting. The DIG traffic briefed participants on the progress of checking points across the city, current measures, challenges, and future strategies.
The police chief directed that checking points be made more active and better integrated to improve traffic flow, ensure public convenience, and strengthen law enforcement. He also stressed the adoption of modern methods for traffic management and prompt redressal of public complaints.
Emphasising improved performance, he said that facilitating citizens and maintaining order on roads remain top priorities.
