PESHAWAR: A series of activities including Vaccination Health Camps have been planned for communities dwelling in Upper Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to mark World Immunisation Week, starting from April 23 to 30.
The initiative aims to improve access to essential health services for underserved populations besides strengthening routine immunization services in remote and mountainous areas.The camps will cover mostly those children who are missed in immunisation campaigns and pregnant women for administering them essential vaccines.
These activities are planned by Hujra Village Support Organization under the patronage of Expanded Programme for Immunisation (EPI) KP and GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance.The organization held a camp at BHU Kuz Jalkot wherein around 151 patients were examined, particularly women and children, says Bahadar Sher, Coordinator Hujra.
The Health Department also send its staff to the camp including EPI Coordinator, Dr. Bakhtak, Medical Specialist, Dr. Rafiq, Children Specialist, Dr. Zahir, General Surgeon, Dr. Nizamuddin and Dr. Majeed.
The medical teams vaccinated 40 children and also carried out awareness sessions about the importance of vaccines in prevention of diseases and timely consultation of doctors for treatment of different diseases, besides medical needs of pregnant women.
