PPP team discusses law and order in GB

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party held a meeting with representatives of the Anjuman-e-Imamia in Skardu and held discussions on the law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, emphasising the need to promote harmony, inter-sect unity and religious tolerance.

The delegation included Secretary General PPP Parliamentarians Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Central Secretary Information Nadeem Afzal Chan, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Humayun Khan, Sajid Turi, Muhammad Musa, Engineer Ismail, Jameel Ahmed and Bashir Ahmed, along with divisional and district office-bearers from Gilgit-Baltistan.

During the meeting, the delegation expressed condolences over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others, and offered prayers for the elevation of their ranks. Both sides discussed the law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan and stressed the need to promote harmony, inter-sect unity and religious tolerance.

The PPP delegation reaffirmed its commitment to playing a proactive role in fostering peace, brotherhood and cohesion in the region. It was mutually acknowledged that Baltistan has historically remained a cradle of peace, where religious scholars have consistently contributed in a constructive and positive manner. In light of recent developments, the participants stressed that all issues must be resolved through dialogue, mutual understanding and tolerance.

The meeting also underscored that maintaining peace in Gilgit-Baltistan is a collective responsibility of all political and religious stakeholders. With upcoming elections in view, both sides highlighted the importance of ensuring a peaceful and conducive environment to enable a transparent and orderly democratic process. The PPP delegation assured that the party would continue to uphold unity, safeguard public interest and contribute at every level towards lasting peace and stability in the region.
