LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology here on Monday formally launched its ‘Green Campus’ initiative aimed at transforming the university into an environmentally sustainable and lush green space.

The campaign was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Shahid Munir, who planted a sapling to mark the commencement of the tree plantation drive. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Nasir Hayat, Deans of all faculties, Chairpersons of various departments, and heads of teaching and non-teaching staff.

As part of the campaign, fruit-bearing, flowering, and shade-giving trees were planted along the university corridors and on both sides of the main gate. The initiative aims to enhance the natural beauty of the campus while contributing to a healthier and cleaner environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Shahid Munir emphasised the vital role of trees in environmental protection. He noted that trees not only produce oxygen but also help purify the air, which is essential for a healthy society. He directed all departmental heads to actively continue the plantation drive within their respective departments and stressed that along with planting trees, their protection and proper care are equally important responsibilities.

The VC also urged students, faculty members, and university staff to play an active role in nurturing and maintaining the plants to ensure that UET Lahore becomes a true model of a green campus.
