1,718 held in action against drug dealers this year

LAHORE: Lahore Police have arrested 1,718 suspects and registered 1,674 cases as part of an ongoing crackdown against drug peddlers conducted so far this year. 

According to the police spokesperson, the operations resulted in the recovery of significant quantity of narcotics, including 579 kg charas, 139 kg ice (crystal meth), 31 kg heroin, 69 kg bhang, 6 kg opium and 10,519 litre liquor from those arrested. In this regard, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana stated that indiscriminate action must continue against individuals involved in luring the youth towards drug abuse.

He directed to maintain strict surveillance over the online sale and purchase of modern synthetic drugs, particularly ice. He emphasised the importance of effective information-sharing and coordinated efforts among the line departments to curb narcotics trafficking. 

All those involved in the drug supply chain must be brought to justice and cases pursued to their logical conclusion, he added.
