Frequent power outages in cities like Karachi are badly disturbing daily routines and creating problems for students, businesses and even hospitals. Recently, markets have been ordered to close by 9pm and authorities have announced about 2 hours of daily loadshedding across the country, which is increasing frustration among the people. This situation is mainly caused by rising circular debt and the country’s heavy dependence on imported fuels, which becomes expensive when global prices increase.

Costly agreements with power producers, electricity theft and outdated systems further worsen the problem. To improve this situation, the government needs to focus more on renewable energy like solar and wind, upgrade old infrastructure and strictly control electricity theft. Reviewing expensive contracts and ensuring transparency can also help reduce financial pressure. Strong and timely action is now essential as solving this crisis is not only important for economic stability but also for improving the everyday lives of citizens.
