Pakistan is heading towards severe and prolonged power shortages due to disruptions in LNG supplies. Reliance on spot LNG procurement is both financially unsustainable and operationally uncertain. The government must move beyond short-term fixes and decisively pursue structural solutions. In a shifting Middle Eastern geopolitical environment – where sanctions on Iran may ease – Pakistan has a strategic opportunity it can no longer afford to ignore. The Iran–Pakistan Gas Pipeline project, stalled for years due to external pressures and policy inertia, should be revived on a priority basis. Delaying this project further will only deepen energy insecurity and economic strain. Immediate, high-level engagement with Iran is essential to secure a reliable, long-term gas supply.
