ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday, while appreciating efforts to facilitate talks between Iran and the United States, called for a similar “ceasefire” within the country, urging political forces to pursue dialogue and internal stability alongside global peace efforts.

While speaking to the media at the Dahgal check-post on Adiala Road in Rawalpindi, the PTI president said his party welcomed the respect accorded to Pakistan at the diplomatic level and added that Islamabad was playing an excellent role in promoting world peace.

Stressing that internal stability was equally essential for global stability, Gohar questioned how meetings with a major political leader like Imran Khan — currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail — could be denied.

Referring to the cases against the jailed party supremo, he contended that cases, which were supposed to be decided within 35 days, have now been pending for 15 months. Responding to a question, he said, “We are not currently engaged in any kind of talks with anyone.”

However, he added, “I hope that talks with the government will begin within one and a half months, while the authority to engage with the government rests with Mahmood Achakzai.”

He emphasised that PTI, fully supported Pakistan’s role and has cancelled its public meeting, scheduled for April 19 at Liaquat Bagh, in recognition of the country’s diplomatic efforts.
