MULTAN: The Punjab government has enacted the Stamp Ordinance 2026 (Amendment) by revising the Stamp Act 1899, granting formal legal status to ‘assignable conveyance’, officials said.

The move, introduced on the recommendations of the Board of Revenue and the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA), aims to make property transactions more transparent, secure, and efficient.

Under the new law, only 1pc stamp duty and 0.1pc service charges will apply to assignable documents for a period of 12 months, with no additional taxes during this time. The government has also eliminated the tax disparity between urban and rural areas by significantly reducing transfer and registration fees on agricultural land, creating a more uniform and investor-friendly environment.
