MANSEHRA: The Lower Kohistan district administration and Education Department on Tuesday launched an enrolment drive for children still out of schools.

“We want to enhance the literacy rate and bring those children to schools whose parents are still reluctant to admit them even to pre-school classes,” Lower Kohistan Deputy Commissioner Tariq Mehmood said at the inaugural ceremony of the enrolment drive held at Government High School Pattan, the district headquarters. District education officers (male and female), teachers from various schools, and parents were also present on the occasion.

Tariq Mehmood, who formally launched the drive by filling out admission forms for several students in pre-school sections, said that Lower Kohistan would emerge as a future commercial hub as the execution of the Diamer-Basha and Dasu hydropower projects nearing completion.

“Your children are not only the bright future of your families but also of the Kohistan region and the rest of the country,” he said. He urged parents to enrol out-of-school children in educational institutions near their settlements to make the ongoing drive successful.

A rally to mark the launch of the enrolment drive was also taken out.The children, teachers, parents, and officials of the district education department participated in the rally.
