NOWSHERA: Provincial Minister for Labour Faisal Khan Tarakai said on Tuesday that workers were playing a vital role in building a successful and strong economy in any society.
Speaking to a delegation comprising representatives of various labour associations, he claimed that protecting workers’ rights was among the top priorities of the incumbent provincial government, which is utilising all available resources to safeguard these rights and improve workers’ living conditions.
The delegation was led by Muhammad Iqbal, president of the collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) at Cherat Cement Factory, and included office-bearers from other labour organisations.
He said that the dedication and hard work shown by labourers in factories, industries, and other workplaces significantly contributed to the country’s economic development and were highly commendable.
During the meeting, representatives of the labour associations apprised the provincial minister of various issues faced by workers, including matters related to wages, social security, workplace safety, and other basic facilities.
The minister assured that the government was taking practical steps for the welfare of the working class and that legitimate concerns would be addressed on a priority basis.Tarakai said that the Labour Department was making full use of all available resources to protect workers’ rights and improve their lives. He also made special mention of issues faced by workers associated with the Mohmand Dam and Suki Kinari projects, assuring that these concerns would be resolved promptly in coordination with relevant authorities.
The minister added that workers engaged in these key development projects should not face any difficulties and that their rights would be fully protected.The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, he said, was taking measures for the welfare of labourers and would strengthen these efforts to ensure that workers could perform duties in a dignified and safe environment.
