CHITRAL: A peace jirga was convened on Tuesday at the residence of a notable Akbar Khan in Kundekasi area in Nuristan province of Afghanistan, bringing together elders from Chitral and representatives from Nuristan and Narey in Kunar.
The jirga was attended by 13 elders from each side. It discussed the recent conflict that began on February 26, which caused significant losses to civilians on both sides. After deliberations, the elders agreed on several key decisions aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. According to the agreement, a complete ceasefire will be observed from Barg-e-Matal in Nuristan to Narey, with both sides’ forces refraining from firing on each other.
The participants decided that the same group of elders would convene in case of any future disputes to resolve issues through dialogue. It was agreed that forces on both sides would operate within their respective territories while maintaining peaceful relations.
