Maritime minister meets rice exporters in Karachi

KARACHI: Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry visited the REAP House in Karachi, where he met representatives of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) to discuss key issues facing the country’s rice export sector and port operations.

The minister was accompanied by Shahid Ahmed, chairperson of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), along with other officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.

The meeting was attended by REAP leadership, including Group Chairman Abdul Rahim Janoo and Chairman Malik Faisal Jahangir, as well as Senior Vice Chairman Muhammad Jawed Jillani and members of the executive committee and association.

During the discussion, REAP representatives appreciated the government’s continued support for exporters amid a challenging global environment. They also acknowledged the role of the maritime ministry in improving and streamlining cargo handling operations at Pakistan’s ports, particularly through efforts led by KPT.

The participants held detailed talks on issues related to rice exports and other matters of mutual interest. The minister assured the exporters of his full support and cooperation in addressing their concerns and facilitating smoother trade operations.

Separately, Abdul Rahim Janoo briefed the minister on the activities of the Haji Razzak Janoo Memorial Trust, which operates free laser eye cataract surgery camps in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Following the discussion, it was agreed to organise a three-day free medical camp in Toba Tek Singh.Under the arrangement, logistical support including food, accommodation and venue will be provided by the minister, while all surgical and medical expenses will be borne by the trust.
