KARACHI: Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has topped the global automotive innovation ranking for the first time in the history of the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) study, displacing Volkswagen after the German group held the position last year.
According to the Automotive INNOVATIONS Report 2026 released by the Germany-based CAM, BYD scored 157.2 on the innovation index, ahead of the Volkswagen Group at 143.1 and Mercedes-Benz Group at 134.2, the company announced on Tuesday.
The result marks the first time a Chinese automaker has claimed the top position since CAM launched its Automotive INNOVATIONS study in 2005.The top 10 ranking also featured Xiaopeng in fourth place with a score of 128.4, followed by BMW at 111.3 and Geely at 103.9. Renault, Toyota, GM and Hyundai rounded out the list with scores of 61.6, 49.4, 43.7 and 42.4 respectively.
