The two tankers, named Khairpur and Shalamar, according to some media reports, were heading towards the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday when they made a 180-degree turn and altered their route, Iran’s Fars news agency reported.

“Based on ship tracking data, the two tankers, which were moving Eastward toward the Strait of Hormuz, changed their course and headed West, retreating from the strait,” the news agency reported, adding, “Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz is under the full management of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and vessels can only transit this strategic waterway after full coordination with Iran and obtaining the necessary authorization.”
