A plainclothes police constable was injured in a firing incident in New Karachi’s Sector 15-B on Saturday, while the armed suspects managed to escape from the scene.
According to police, the injured cop was identified as Constable Asim, who is posted at Jauharabad police station. Police said the constable was present at a tea stall with friends when three suspicious motorcyclists emerged from a nearby street.
Officials said the suspects opened fire when the constable and his companions became alert due to their suspicious movements. A bullet grazed Constable Asim’s forehead, while other shots hit nearby shop shutters and walls.
The injured officer was immediately shifted to a private hospital on Stadium Road, where doctors declared his condition out of danger.
Police said raids are underway in different parts of Karachi to arrest the fleeing suspects, while further investigations into the incident are in progress.
