Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) has rejected the decision by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to lower admission ‘standards’ in medical and dental colleges, terming it harmful to the quality of medical education.
In a statement, PIMA President Prof Atif Hafeez Siddiqui said such decisions weaken merit and undermine academic standards. He noted that changes in admission policies not only compromise on transparency but may also negatively affect the professional competence of future doctors.
He emphasised that policymaking should be guided by national interest and called for preserving a transparent, fair, and merit-based admission system. He stressed the need to avoid decisions that could harm medical standards and public trust.
