HARIPUR: An absconding accused arrested with bullet wounds after a police encounter died while being shifted to the hospital, officials said on Saturday.

The cause of death of the wounded accused, police said, was presumably a heart attack, but the report from FSL laboratory would determine the exact cause of death.

Muhammad Hasan, spokesperson for Haripur police, said that the police in Khanpur arrested Muhammad Riaz, a murder accused, after an encounter in Khidoo Mang villages.

The police, they said, also arrested one of the two accomplices of the injured absconder who was identified as Arshad of village Pinjoo; however, their third accomplice managed to escape.

When contacted, the officer in-charge investigation of Khanpur Police Station, Sub-Inspector Abbas Khan, said that Riaz had suffered two bullet shots in the left knee and was being shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Khanpur when he died. He said that the accused might have suffered a heart attack, but the forensic report would determine the exact cause of death.
