SWABI: Awami National Party (ANP) provincial President Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Saturday called for efforts to end decades-long terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a gathering in Kalabat village here, he said the Pakhtun belt had been witnessing bloodshed for the last 45 years, calling for an end to terrorism.

Condemning recent attacks on the residences of party leaders, he urged the government to improve the worsening law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining friendly relations with neighbouring countries, particularly Afghanistan. He called for a ceasefire, the initiation of dialogue, and the reopening of trade routes to ensure lasting peace and economic stability in the region.

Mian Iftikhar reaffirmed that the ANP would continue its struggle for provincial autonomy, supremacy of the Constitution, and lasting peace, and would not back down from its principled stance under any circumstances.

He said that Iran demonstrated remarkable courage and resolve by compelling the United States to come to the negotiating table.

He said the 40-day conflict caused significant losses to the global economy. However, he termed it encouraging that Pakistan played an effective mediatory role during the crisis.

He also appreciated the efforts of the prime minister and the field marshal for their role in facilitating a ceasefire between the two sides. He expressed optimism about the ongoing talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, hoping they would succeed and contribute to global peace.
