LAHORE:A Lahore-bound Shalimar Express derailed near Sheikhupura on Friday, forcing the suspension of rail traffic on the Faisalabad–Lahore section, railway officials said.According to authorities, one passenger coach went off the track while the train was en-route to Lahore. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
A relief train was dispatched from Lahore and had reached the site, where technical teams were working to re-rail the affected coach and restore operations. The authorities said the railway traffic at this route will be resumed after clearing the track.
The latest incident comes just days after the same train derailed near Shahdadpur, where multiple coaches left the track at low speed during a diversion, preventing any loss of life. Railway accidents have increased in recent months, with officials from Pakistan Railways citing ageing tracks and faulty equipment as key challenges. A spokesperson said 12 derailments were recorded over the past three months out of about 3,000 train operations.
