Minister takes action against Excise officials

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan, took immediate notice on Friday of a complaint lodged by a citizen from Shawa Adda, Swabi, who alleged that officials of the Excise Department had taken a bribe from him while he was travelling from Peshawar.

The minister received the complaint at around 2:00 PM on Friday that certain Excise personnel had illegally extorted money from the citizen.On receiving the complaint, he immediately paid a surprise visit to Excise Police Station Peshawar, where an identification parade of the officials deployed in the nearby jurisdiction was conducted.

During the process, two officials of department involved in receiving the illegal amount were identified. The amount was recovered from them and returned to the affected citizen on the spot.

Secretary Excise, Taxation and Norcotics Control Khalid Ilyas was also accompanying the provincial minister during the visit. The minister issued on-the-spot orders for strict action against the personnel, besides initiating formal disciplinary action.

Similarly,the officials were placed in quarter guard confinement for 10 days. The minister urged the public to report their genuine complaints without fear or hesitation, assuring that every genuine complaint will receive immediate and impartial action.
