LAHORE:The third meeting of the Monitoring Committee on austerity measures was held on Thursday in the Committee Room of the Finance Department under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman.
The Secretary Industries & Commerce (I&C) briefed the meeting on the progress of the government’s austerity measures in light of the evolving regional economic situation, particularly in the context of tensions in the Middle East. The meeting was informed that all government departments are adhering to the directives issued under the ongoing austerity campaign. It was further apprised that measures regarding the reduction in operating hours of markets, hotels, and marriage halls are being effectively enforced.
In this regard, the police and district administration have been fully mobilised to ensure strict implementation. The Secretary School Education and Secretary Higher Education also briefed the committee on the austerity measures undertaken within the education sector and provided details regarding transportation facilities available to students, including the number of buses and beneficiaries. The committee members expressed satisfaction over the progress made in implementing austerity measures across departments.
