LAHORE: President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Faheem ur Rehman Saigol on Tuesday paid rich tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for what he described as “visionary, decisive and highly effective leadership” that helped defuse the rising tensions between Iran and the United States, averting a potentially devastating regional conflict.

In an exclusive talk with Daily Jang, Saigol said Pakistan’s diplomatic intervention at a critical juncture not only prevented an escalation between two major powers but also reaffirmed the country’s stature as a responsible and peace promoting state on the global stage. He termed the leadership’s handling of the situation “a remarkable example of wisdom, foresight and statesmanship”.

“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir demonstrated exceptional prudence and strategic clarity. Their coordinated efforts ensured that dialogue prevailed over confrontation, thereby safeguarding regional peace and global economic stability,” he said.

He said the development had drawn international recognition and enhanced Pakistan’s image as a stabilising force in an increasingly volatile region. “This success reflects the maturity and effectiveness of Pakistan’s foreign policy, which prioritises peace, balance and constructive engagement,” he added.

Shifting focus to domestic challenges, Saigol urged the government to complement its diplomatic achievements with robust economic measures. He stressed that the business community expected policies that would facilitate trade and industrial activity rather than restrict them.

Expressing concern over the early closure of markets, he said the decision was negatively affecting commercial activity and discouraging business growth.
