LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab carried out a successful intelligence-based operation near Attock, killing five highly dangerous militants who were allegedly planning terrorist attacks in different parts of the province.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the department received credible intelligence regarding the presence of militants in a border area of Attock. The suspects had reportedly completed planning for attacks at various locations across Punjab. Acting on the information, law enforcement agencies launched a targeted operation in the area.

During the operation, the militants opened fire on the security personnel, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Following the encounter, all five militants were killed. CTD officials recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives from the militants, including explosive material, a suicide jacket, three submachine guns (SMGs), two hand grenades, and a large quantity of ammunition. The recovered material indicated that the suspects were preparing to carry out major terrorist activities in the province.

The spokesperson said that efforts are underway to establish the identities of the slain militants, while further search and sweep operations have been launched in the bordering areas to locate any possible accomplices. Reaffirming the department’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, the spokesperson said CTD Punjab remains determined to eliminate terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens. He also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities or information related to terrorism through the CTD helpline at 0800-11111.
