Naqvi meets JI chief

LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, at Mansoorah.

During the meeting, the two leaders held discussions on country’s overall political, economic, and law-and-order situation, as well as rapidly evolving regional scenario.

The discussions also focused on developments following Iran-US understanding and its potential impact on regional peace and stability. Both leaders described the understanding as a positive step towards promoting peace, stability, and reducing tensions in the region.

Appreciating Islamabad’s role in facilitating Iran-US understanding, JI chief said Pakistan’s efforts to achieve lasting regional peace were commendable.

He said country’s historic contribution in this regard would always be remembered.

The development had opened the door to greater peace and stability across the region, he added.

JI leader also raised issue of Pakistani citizens stranded in Somalia and urged government to play an effective diplomatic role in ensuring their immediate and safe evacuation.

He stressed all necessary measures should be taken to protect and assist the stranded Pakistanis.

The JI chief and the Interior Minister also discussed country’s economic situation and challenges faced by the public. Rehman emphasised need for effective measures to provide relief to citizens, reduce inflation, and strengthen national economy.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman on Iran-US negotiations and the steps taken by government in this regard.

He said Prime Minister and Field Marshal had played a key and memorable role in efforts aimed at promoting regional peace.

“Pakistan deserves credit for helping to reduce tensions in the region”, Naqvi said.
