Islamabad: The Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) has become a founding member of the Global Parliamentary Training Institutes’ steering committee, alongside the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and training schools from five other countries, says a press release.
The decision was taken at the inaugural conference hosted by the IPU, Parliament of Ghana, and Center for Parliamentary Studies (CPST) Kenya in Accra, Ghana, which brought together over 50 experts from 17 countries. PIPS has been selected to host the second Global Conference of Parliamentary Training Institutes (PTIs) in Islamabad from February 3-5, 2027, in collaboration with the IPU.
The conference was inaugurated by Ghana’s Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ayariga Mahayama, and IPU Technical Support Head Nora Babic. PIPS Director General Research Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka facilitated a session on developing standards and norms for parliamentary training, focusing on member induction programs.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani is the president of PIPS’ Board of Governors. The institute has conducted over 435 trainings and 2,500 researches for parliamentarians and staff, and publishes a monthly research journal widely read globally. This recognition reinforces PIPS’ standing as an international parliamentary center of excellence.
