Rawalpindi:After the announcement of the petroleum relief package by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Rawalpindi has come first in the number of people traveling for free across Punjab.
After the metro bus tickets became free, in the first two days, despite the official holidays of Saturday and Sunday, about 300,000 people have traveled for free, while 100,000 people traveled for free on electric and green buses in two days.
However, on the first working day of the week (Monday), long queues of passengers formed at Rawalpindi and Islamabad metro bus stations. The rush of people on metro buses has increased to an extraordinary extent.
After the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products, the Punjab government has announced to make metro bus tickets free for a month, due to which queues of hundreds of people formed at metro stations.
Due to the rush, women, elderly people and children are facing severe difficulties, while metro bus staff are giving free tickets after seeing the identity card. A large number of citizens have started parking their cars and motorcycles and preferring to travel on metro buses.
In this regard, the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority Rawalpindi says that after the metro bus ticket became free, about 300,000 people have traveled for free so far. On Saturday, more than 129,000 passengers have traveled for free on the metro bus, while free tickets are also being given on electric and green buses. Similarly, 100,000 passengers have traveled for free on electric and green buses in two days.
On Saturday, more than 40,000 passengers have traveled for free on electric green buses. He said that the highest number of people traveling for free in Punjab has been counted in Rawalpindi.
