Former Sindh governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Saturday said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) was becoming stronger and more united under the leadership of Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, while announcing that after a conference on Karachi’s future (held at Governor House during Tessori’s tenure), a comprehensive conference on the future of Sindh would also be held.

Speaking at the MQM-P’s Bahadurabad headquarters after presenting his three-and-a-half-year performance report (as the provincial governor) to the party leadership, Tessori said the party’s strength lay not in official resources but in the dedication and unity of its workers.

Tessori, who served as Sindh governor until last month, submitted his report to MQM-P Chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and members of the party’s central committee. Senior party leaders, including Dr Farooq Sattar, Syed Aminul Haque and Khawaja Izharul Hassan, were also present, along with members of the national and provincial assemblies. His status as former governor follows his replacement by Nehal Hashmi in March.

Talking to media representatives afterwards, Tessori said that during his tenure as governor, technology-driven initiatives had been prioritised, alongside a range of public welfare programmes aimed at serving people across Sindh. He said that when one enjoys the trust and support of the public, holding an official office is no longer essential, adding that he would continue to remain among the people and serve them in the future as well.

Tessori said that during his time at the Governor House, people from all districts of Sindh and from different linguistic communities had been served without discrimination. He referred to a number of welfare initiatives, including the distribution of laptops, provision of motorbikes, and other public support measures.

Thanking Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui for what he described as a warm welcome at the Bahadurabad headquarters of the MQM, he said the party was gaining further strength under his leadership. He added that after the proposed conference on Karachi’s future, the party also intended to hold a broader conference on Sindh’s future.

He said that party workers and other stakeholders were in agreement that the way forward lay in unity and collective political struggle. Tessori also reaffirmed his commitment to remain visible among the public and active alongside his party.

Expressing gratitude to the media, the business community and industrialists, he said that although the MQM-P did not possess state resources, its workers remained its greatest asset.

In his concluding remarks, Tessori said that the party’s present strength had been built on the sacrifices of its martyrs. Prayers were offered for deceased workers and for the safe return and well-being of missing colleagues.

A large number of MQM office-bearers of central departments, town and UC officials, and party workers were present on the occasion.
