Commissioner expresses satisfaction at post-rainfall situation

The Karachi commissioner on Saturday visited various areas of Karachi, including different sub divisions of District Central and District East, to review the post-rainfall situation in the city.

Officials said the commissioner inspected roads with traffic issues, footpath encroachments and parking problems, and reviewed the cleanliness situation. He expressed satisfaction at the response to the rainfall situation, saying that the relevant departments had quickly addressed the issues.

He said the administration was playing its role with the departments concerned to resolve the civic issues and improve facilities in the city.

He also talked to the media during his visit. He said areas and roads affected by the rain had been quickly restored.

The commissioner visited Numaish, Patel Para, Jahangir Road, Liaquatabad, Teen Hatti and Kareemabad. He directed officials to remove encroachments, address parking issues and improve cleanliness work.

The commissioner also inspected the undergoing work at the Kareemabad Underpass. He said work had been impacted by rainfall but was progressing now.

He expressed the hope that the project would help resolve traffic issues in the area.

The commissioner was informed that carpeting of the underpass would begin next week, and efforts were being made to open it soon.

During his visit to old Numaish Chowk, he took notice of the growth of encroachments at the footpath with illegal parking and obstructions. He directed East Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Abbasi to take action against the encroachments and ensure removal of all type of encroachments.

The commissioner was accompanied by Karachi Development Authority Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, traffic officials, East deputy commissioner, Central Deputy Commissioner Taha Salim and other officials. Traffic officials highlighted the roads where traffic congestion had become an issue due to illegal parking and encroachments.

It was decided that district administration and traffic police would work together to address traffic issues and remove encroachments from the city.
