First Lady of the of Pakistan and Member of the National Assembly Aseefa Bhutto Zardari on Saturday attended a Quran Khawani and dua ceremony held at the Media Cell, Bilawal House in Karachi, to commemorate the 47th death anniversary of Quaid-e-Awam and Pakistan Peoples Party founder Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The ceremony was organised by the PPP Women’s Wing, drawing a large number of women who gathered to pay homage to the late PPP founder and former prime minister.

PPP Women’s Wing Central President Faryal Talpur was also present alongside Aseefa Bhutto Zardari during the solemn event, where verses from the Holy Quraan were recited and special prayers were offered for the departed leader.

Participants paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, recalling his enduring contributions to democracy, constitutional supremacy and the political empowerment of the people of Pakistan.

The gathering also served as a reaffirmation of the party’s continued reverence for Bhutto’s political and ideological legacy, which remains deeply rooted among PPP workers and supporters.

A large turnout of women at the ceremony reflected the emotional and political significance of the occasion, as prayers were also offered for the country’s peace, stability and prosperity.

Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, organised a Quran Khawani on Saturday to pay homage on the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The spiritual event was held at the Directorate of Social and Electronic Media in Clifton Block 5, Karachi. The Quran recitation ceremony paid tribute to the services of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, while special prayers were offered for the elevation of their ranks.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished personalities from various walks of life, government officials, and party workers. On the occasion, participants paid tribute to Bhutto for his national services, promotion of democracy, and his struggle for public rights.

Sindh Minister for Labour, Human Resources and Social Protection and President Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Karachi Division Saeed Ghani has said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto accomplished in his 51 years of life what is difficult to even imagine today.

Addressing separate events held on Saturday in connection with Bhutto’s 47th death anniversary under the constituencies PS-102, PS-103, PS-104 and PS-105 in District East, Ghani said that had Bhutto been alive today, Pakistan’s present circumstances would have been entirely different, as would the condition of the region, the wider world and the Muslim Ummah.

He said the credit for making Pakistan a nuclear power, giving the country a consensual constitution, elevating its standing in the Islamic world, and placing it on the path of genuine democracy belonged to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

“In today’s global environment, if Pakistan stands as a secure and strong state in the region, much of that credit goes to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for laying the foundations of the country’s nuclear strength,” Ghani said.

He described Bhutto as “the name of an era”, saying his life and political journey had left a lasting imprint on Pakistan’s national history. He said Bhutto not only attained a distinguished education but also founded the Pakistan Peoples Party and expanded it to every corner of the country.

Ghani said Bhutto’s personality, political vision and services to the country were so vast that they could not be fully covered in a single speech. He added that Pakistan’s ability today to stand confidently before the world was also part of Bhutto’s enduring legacy.

Recalling one of Bhutto’s most quoted declarations, he said people still remembered the words: “We will eat grass, but we will build the atomic bomb.” He said this resolve ultimately translated into a strategic strength that continued to safeguard the country.

He further said that 25 years after the creation of Pakistan, the country received a unanimously agreed Constitution, which he described as one of Bhutto’s greatest contributions. He also credited Bhutto with helping shape Pakistan into what he termed a true Islamic welfare-oriented state.

Criticising the military regime that ousted Bhutto, Ghani said a dictator had orchestrated the judicial killing of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the belief that the Pakistan Peoples Party could be erased from national politics. However, he said, history had proved otherwise.

“Today, that dictator has faded into history, but Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remains alive in the hearts of children, elders, youth, men and women across Pakistan,” he said.

Ghani added that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto carried forward Bhutto’s ideology, philosophy and manifesto, and she too embraced martyrdom in that struggle. He said President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were now continuing that political mission, while the party remained committed to taking its message to every part of the country.

A large number of party office-bearers, elected local government representatives and workers attended the anniversary events. Among those present were District East President Iqbal Sand, Chairman Chanesar Town Farhan Ghani, Chairman Safoora Town Rashid Khaskheli, and Chairman Sohrab Goth Town Lala Rahim, along with presidents and general secretaries of the relevant party units.
