The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a crackdown against illegal immigrants and corrupt officials, arresting multiple suspects during operations in Karachi, officials said on Saturday.

According to an FIA spokesperson, a major operation was carried out by the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in the Metroville SITE Area of Orangi Town, where two Afghan nationals Habibullah and Naimatullah were arrested.

Authorities said illegal Pakistani identity documents were recovered from the suspects. Initial investigations revealed the involvement of a National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) official in facilitating the issuance of these documents.

The official, identified as Assistant Superintendent Furqan Ahmed Khan Durrani, was found to have approved the identity cards. In a separate raid conducted in the Nursery area, the FIA arrested the accused Nadra officer. An FIR has been registered against the suspects under the Foreigners Act 1946 and the Pakistan Citizenship Act 1947.

FIA officials said three-day physical remand of the arrested individuals has been obtained, while further investigations are underway and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons involved in the network.
