LAHORE : Heavy to moderate but scattered rain with thunderstorm was reported in the city here on Saturday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.
The rain also brought down the average Air Quality Index (AQI) of the City to 75, which fell in the category of moderate while the PM2.5 concentration was 4.4 times the World Health Organization annual PM2.5 guideline value.
Thick clouds covered various city areas in the evening after which rain started turning the weather pleasant. The rain was witnessed at Ichra, Chauburji, Samanabad, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Johar Town, PIA Road, Gaddafi Stadium, Kalma Chowk, Muslim Town, Naulakha, Kot Lakhpat, Ferozepur Road, Green Town, Mughalpura, Shahdara, Pine Avenue, DHA and other adjacent areas.
Following the rain, Wasa MD Ghufran Ahmed supervised the rainwater clearing operations at various city localities. He visited various low-lying areas and inspected drainage operation.
He directed that machinery and staff should be active on all highways. He issued instructions to keep all underpasses across the city clear and presence of field staff should be ensured at all points.
The MD warned that no negligence will be tolerated in the drainage process as providing convenience to the citizens was the top priority of Wasa.
Meanwhile, Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin directed the DG to keep field teams operational. He said all disposal stations should be ready and machinery should be fully functional and monitoring should be ensured in all districts.
Bilal Yasin said timely drainage of water from low-lying areas and underpasses should be given top priority while contingent plan should be prepared keeping in mind the recommendations of the district administration and PDMA.
Met officials said maximum temperature in the city was 24°C and minimum temperature was 17°C.
