ISLAMABAD: In a noteworthy administrative reshuffle at the federal level, Lieutenant (retd) Sohail Ashraf has been appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, following the formal removal of his predecessor. The transition was confirmed through an official notification issued by the Establishment Division, marking a definitive shift in the leadership of Islamabad Capital Territory administration.

Before his arrival in the federal capital, Sohail Ashraf held a prominent administrative position within the Punjab government, where he gained extensive experience in provincial governance. His appointment to this pivotal role comes at a time when the federal government is focused on streamlining the management of capital’s executive affairs.

As chief commissioner, Ashraf will be tasked with overseeing the district’s general administration, law and order and revenue management — a role that traditionally carries the weight of coordinating between various federal departments and the capital’s development authorities.

Being ex-officio member of CDA board under Section 6(2) of CDA Ordinance, 1960, Sohail Ashraf will also be appointed as chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). A separate notification in this respect is likely to be issued today (Thursday).
