PESHAWAR: The first Protection Resource Centre (PRC) for Hazara Division was inaugurated in Haripur to empower women and girls economically and help end all forms of discrimination and harassment against them in Haripur district.
“We have facilitated 654 women and persons with disabilities in obtaining national identity cards and trained them in backyard kitchen gardening by providing toolkits, seeds, and fertilisers,” Mukhtar Javed, Executive Director of Welfare Association Jared (WAJ), told the inaugural ceremony of the PRC held in the Dheenda area in Haripur.
Mohammad Akmal Advocate, the chairman of the WAJ board, inaugurated the PRC, which was established with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and HOPE’87.
The ceremony was attended, among others, by members of Youth and Women Collectives (YWCs), project beneficiaries, gender experts, and psychologists.
Participants also discussed and finalised strategies to enhance programme impact, improve operational processes, and strengthen service delivery to communities.Mukhtar Javed said that the PRC would play a critical role in supporting vulnerable segments and host communities by providing protection services and guidance.
“We aim to set a new milestone by providing counselling and other services to women, persons with disabilities, and survivors in collaboration with NADRA, the Social Welfare Department, medical boards, the Sarhad Rural Support Programme, and local health facilities,” Javed said.
