Poppy crop destroyed in Swabi

SWABI: The local police destroyed poppy crops cultivated in the mountainous areas of the district on Tuesday, officials said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Topi Circle, Shakeel Khan said the operation was conducted in remote mountainous areas, including Mangal Chai, Dalori, Chanai, Ziarat, Gumbila, Banjo, Jalil Kandao, Shah Toot Banda, Kolagar, Dheron, Utla and Takil in Topi tehsil.

Large swathes of land under illegally cultivated poppy crops were cleared during the operation, which officials described as a significant step towards curbing drug production.DSP Hassan Khan of Razar Circle said similar operations were carried out in Naranji, Dara and adjoining hilly areas of Razar tehsil, where poppy crop was also eradicated.Razar tehsil Assistant Commissioner Sabiha Tabassum along with officials from relevant departments, supervised the operation.
