LAHORE: Islamabad United enter their PSL-2026 clash against Peshawar Zalmi at Gaddafi Stadium with slightly stronger all-round depth and a more settled batting-power-balance, making them marginal favourites in what is expected to be a high-scoring, six-laden T20 at the Gaddafi Stadium here in Lahore.

Islamabad are coming into this match with a well-minted core: Devon Conway gives them a classical opener, Mark Chapman adds stability at No. 3, while Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim provide two-pronged spin control and genuine finishing ability down the order. Their bowling attack blends left-arm pace (Mohammad Wasim), right-arm strike options (Shamar Joseph, Richard Gleeson), and leg-spin pressure (Shadab, Imad), giving them flexibility in both halves of the innings.

Peshawar Zalmi, led by Babar Azam, lean heavily on his consistency and Kusal Mendis’ aggressive keeping–batting, but their middle order and death-bowling options look a bit more fragile on paper. Their overseas contingent (James Vince, Aaron Hardie, Michael Bracewell, Tymal Mills) can explode in patches, yet over-reliance on a few individuals raises the risk of a collapse if early wickets fall.

Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has historically favoured batters, with fast outfield and relatively flat surfaces encouraging high totals and big-hitting. Night-time dew in late March can make the second innings easier, so the team chasing may have a psychological edge if they get a par-ish score to gun down. Both sides will likely throw the kitchen sink in the first six overs, targeting the powerplay and field-restriction boundaries.

The key battles in the match to watch could be between Shadab vs Babar: Shadab’s looping leg-spin and variations can trouble Babar if he presses too hard early; if Babar gets through the middle overs, he can anchor Zalmi’s innings. However, United’s success will hinge on how long they can bat without giving away cheap wickets to short-ball aggression or early-on reverse. If Zalmi lose quick wickets, Mendis and Vince will need to stand up to Imad’s control and Shadab’s flight; any lapse here could see them slipping below 160 on a big pitch.

Islamabad’s edge comes from greater balance: they can dial up aggression through Chapman, Haider Ali, and all-rounders like Dipendra Singh Airee, while still having Wasim, Joseph, and Gleeson to peg back a fledgling run chase. Peshawar can win if Babar and one overseas partner (Vince or Mendis) fire in tandem and the middle order holds, but their bowling lacks the depth to consistently defend high totals.

If Islamabad United can restrict Zalmi to under 180 and get a partnership of 60+ between Conway and Chapman, they are slight favourites; if Zalmi post 190+ with a Babar–Mendis or Babar–Vince stand, they become the team to back.
