LAHORE: Karachi Kings’ leg-spinner Adam Zampa says he enjoyed the conditions to the fullest as it suited his style of bowling.
Zampa was named Player of the Match for his outstanding spell of 2 for 11 in four overs, including a maiden, in the dramatic four-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium. His economical bowling strangled Lahore’s middle order and proved decisive in keeping them to a modest total of 128.
Speaking after the match, Zampa explained how the conditions suited his style: “It was a pretty used wicket. Low-ish, slow-ish, bit of spin, so I used my strength and tried to hit the stumps and slide the ball a bit. Suited me.
Summing up the conditions… I’ve played here plenty of times. Years of experience, mate, I know what I’m doing when I go out there. As I said, there’s not a lot of mystery in my bowling anymore but still lots of nuance.” His remarks highlighted the value of experience and subtle variations over mystery spin, especially on surfaces that demand patience and precision.
The match ended in sensational fashion. With Karachi needing 14 runs off the final over, Lahore were penalized five runs for unfairly changing the condition of the ball, reducing the target to just nine. Abbas Afridi, drafted into the XI for this game, seized the moment with a boundary and a six to seal victory in 19.3 overs.
