SYDNEY: Fiji rugby league captain and Melbourne Storm forward Tui Kamikamica was in hospital Monday following a suspected stroke.

The 31-year-old Kamikamica had played in Melbourne’s 28-24 National Rugby League loss to North Queensland on Saturday. “He has undergone treatment for a suspected stroke and is recovering in hospital,” the club said in a statement.

“Tui is receiving the best possible care and is being supported by hospital specialists, alongside the club’s medical staff.” Melbourne were already without fellow forward Eli Katoa for the season after he underwent brain surgery following a series of head knocks playing for Tonga against New Zealand in November.

Kamikamica has played 142 NRL games, all for the Storm, since his debut in 2017 and has made 22 appearances for Fiji. He is due to captain Fiji in this year’s rugby league World Cup, which begins in October in Australia, New Zealand and Papua.
