WANA: A joint jirga of the commission and landowners was held on Monday to determine land rates for the district headquarters in Upper South Waziristan .
The meeting focused on fixing the price of land in the area designated as Shapash Teen for the establishment of the district headquarters. The jirga was attended by members of a 20-member commission comprising elders from the Mehsud and Burki tribes along with representatives of sub-clans of the Mehsud Shamirai tribe, including Saadikhel, Dodikhel and two other branches.
During the jirga, detailed discussions were held about the land rates and issues faced by local residents. The Saadikhel and two other sub-branches agreed to provide land for the district headquarters and authorised the commission to determine a reasonable rate.
However, the Dodikhel branch sought two days’ time to make a final decision after internal consultations.Later, members of the commission and elders of the Dodikhel tribe met Ladha Assistant Commissioner Shadman Khan Safi.
Dodikhel formally requested a two-day extension, which was taken under consideration.AC Shadman Safi informed both the commission and tribal elders in separate jirgas that Section 4 had already been imposed on the land in Shapash Teen, meaning that the land acquisition process was underway within the legal framework.
