Swat Valley receives rain, snowfall

MINGORA: Several areas in Swat Valley received intermittent snowfall and rain intensifying the cold weather and gusty winds.

Snowfall was received in high-altitude regions including Kalam, Mahodand, Gabral, Ashu, Matiltan, Gabin Jabba, and Malam Jaba. Mountains were covered with a blanket of snow.The snowfall has covered the valley in white, enhancing the natural beauty of the region. Tourists from across the country are enjoying the picturesque landscape and live snowfall.

Rain continued in the low-lying regions. The rainfall was recorded in plain areas such as Barikot, Khwazakhela, Kabal, Babuzai, and Charbagh.According to the Meteorological Department, rain in plains and snowfall in mountainous areas are expected to continue for the next four days, with a gradual increase in the intensity of cold weather

Meanwhile, the upper parts of Hazara division on Monday received the heaviest downpour of the winter season, making the weather chilly once again.The rain, which started on Sunday night, continued intermittently throughout Monday in Mansehra, Torghar, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, and Kolai-Palas districts.

The rainwater flooded roads and streets, entering houses and shops in some parts of the division.The link roads connecting dozens of villages with the Karakoram Highway and the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road were blocked due to landslides.

Meanwhile, both districts of Chitral experienced heavy rainfall, accompanied by snowfall in remote areas including Garam Chashma, Medak, Lasht, Upper Chitral regions such as Khot, Trich, Ritch, and Broghil.

There were no reports of traffic disruption, and the Lowari Tunnel remained open for all types of vehicles. However, local authorities reported occasional rockfalls along mountainous areas. Officials in Garam Chashma warned that the ongoing rain and snowfall could adversely affect local fruit production, including apricots, apples, and pears, which are currently in bloom.
