LAHORE: The J.A. Zaman – Ace Junior Golf League (AJGL) Match, staged at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club, marked a significant collaboration between the prestigious J.A. Zaman Memorial Championship and the rapidly growing AJGL.

A total of 45 juniors competed across designated categories, while more than 20 players stepped into the Men’s and Ladies Amateur divisions. This crossover reflects a crucial shift: young golfers are no longer confined to age-group competitions but are now holding their own at the highest amateur levels. Since its inception in October 2022, AJGL has built a structured, merit-based pathway for juniors, with over 400 registered players nationwide. Monthly matches have provided consistent exposure, sharpening scoring ability, course management, and tournament discipline.

The league has become a credible and impactful platform, offering not just competition but direction. With its consistency, AJGL is increasingly seen as the backbone of Pakistan’s junior golf structure, nurturing athletes who are confident, disciplined, and competitive.

The support of the J.A. Zaman Championship and the Zaman family remains central to this progress. Their commitment to professionalism and merit continues to strengthen the foundation of the game. “The J. Zaman Memorial Championship is built on professionalism and merit. As a nation, we cannot progress without upholding these values, especially in sports,” said Mr. Hamid Zaman, emphasizing that juniors will always remain part of the championship. He praised AJGL as the true torchbearer of the Zaman legacy.

AJGL Patron-in-Chief Lt Gen Mian Hilal Husain lauded the initiative, calling it a model for others to follow. He complimented Dr. Asma Shami and Ms. Munazza Shaheen for their dedication in elevating junior golf. Dr. Shami, Chairperson AJGL, noted the encouraging turnout: “The turnout of 45 juniors has been a pleasant surprise, up from 52 last year. With increasing awareness through media coverage, we hope to cross 70 participants next year.” She highlighted the strong desire among parents to bring children “from screens to the greens,” with juniors traveling from Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, and Karachi.
