A man was killed and two others were injured in a traffic accident near the Khayaban-e-Ittehad signal in DHA Phase VI on Saturday. Three more people died in other road accidents.
According to police, a speeding car collided with a rickshaw in DHA, resulting in the death of a man and serious injuries to two others. Rescue teams and police rushed to the scene upon receiving information and transported the victims to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
Chhipa welfare service officials said the deceased, believed to be around 30 years old, is yet to be identified. The injured have been identified as 25-year-old Farhan, son of Jaleel Ahmed, and 35-year-old Waqas.
According to SHO Hikmatullah of the Sahil police station, the accident occurred due to over-speeding. He said the impact was so severe that the rickshaw was completely destroyed.
The rickshaw was approaching from the Sea View side and attempted to cross the signal despite it being red, while the car, coming from DHA Phase VIII, was also moving at a high speed. The collision occurred as both vehicles tried to cross simultaneously.
Police have taken the car driver, identified as Ghulam Abbas, into custody and shifted him to the police station. He was found to be in possession of a valid driving licence.
The vehicle, a black car bearing Punjab’s registration number, has also been impounded. Police said CCTV camera footage are being reviewed to determine who was responsible for the accident.

Police said a man sleeping on a footpath near Port Qasim Berth No. 2 in the Bin Qasim area was crushed to death by a trailer. The body was taken to the JPMC. The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Ameen, son of Umar, a resident of the Bin Qasim area.
In Keamari’s Jackson area, a donkey cart driver was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near PT Gate No. 15. His body was transported to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi. Police said the deceased appeared to be around 45 years old, but his identity could not be established.
In the Ahsanabad area within the SITE Super Highway police station’s limits, a man was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident early in the morning. He died during treatment at the JPMC. Police identified him as 45-year-old Abdul Haq, son of Abdul Ameen.
