LAHORE: Karachi Kings captain David Warner acknowledged both the challenges faced during the innings against Quetta and the positives that emerged later, particularly the role of Moeen Ali and the team’s spin attack.
Warner shared his thoughts after his side’s hard-fought win over Quetta Gladiators in the second match of PSL 11 at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Warner admitted that the team initially felt a score of 170 would be par, but a few poor stroke selections—including his own dismissal—halted momentum in the middle overs. He praised Moeen Ali’s composed knock, which helped Karachi reach a competitive total: “The way that Mo played in the partnership towards the back end to get us to a good total was fantastic.”
Reflecting on the bowling effort, Warner highlighted the importance of the spinners in regaining control after the powerplay. He credited Adam Zampa, along with Moeen Ali and Alec, for building pressure through disciplined spells: “By consuming some dots and only allowing them singles and the odd boundary, that’s how we try and build pressure to create wickets and chances. Zampa is a great addition to our team, and it’s handy having Alec and Moeen Ali there to bowl some off-spin too.”
Warner also spoke about the team’s energy and cohesion, noting that the players have remained upbeat even in quieter stadium atmospheres: “We’ve played in times like this where there’s been no crowd and you can sort of fade away a little bit as players. But I think what the boys are looking for is Padel tomorrow night, so that’s where all the energy will be.”
