LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League season 11 continues with a blockbuster clash as Multan Sultans take on Islamabad United in Match 4 at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday (today).
Multan Sultans endured a disastrous 2025 campaign, losing nine of their ten matches. Under the new leadership of Ashton Turner, the 2021 champions are determined to bounce back and re-establish themselves as contenders. With a revamped squad featuring international stars, they enter this season with renewed optimism.
Islamabad United, led by Shadab Khan, are three-time PSL champions but also suffered disappointment last year, bowing out in the Eliminator 2 against Lahore Qalandars. Known for their aggressive brand of cricket, United will look to start strong and showcase discipline across all departments.
Multan Sultans would want their opener Sahibzada Farhan who was last season’s leading run-scorer (449 runs), to anchor the batting. Steve Smith who is making his PSL debut, to bring stability and class to the top order. Mohammad Nawaz – set to provides balance with his all-round skills and Peter Siddle & Mohammad Wasim Jr use their experienced pace options to lead the bowling attack.
As of Islamabad United, Shadab Khan its captain and key all-rounder, would be vital with both bat and ball. Devon Conway and Mark Chapman – Overseas batters add depth and power. Haider Ali – an explosive opener capable of changing the game in the powerplay. And Faheem Ashraf & Mohammad Hasnain – would provide pace and all-round flexibility.
The Gaddafi Stadium is expected to produce a batting-friendly surface with true bounce, favoring stroke play. The average first innings score here last season was around 170 runs, suggesting another high-scoring contest. With rain showers predicted and humidity around 69%, captains may prefer to bowl first to exploit conditions and chase under lights.
In their last five meetings, Islamabad United have won four, while Multan Sultans managed just one victory.
This gives United a psychological edge, though Multan’s new-look squad could alter the balance.
Multan Sultans enter as slight favorites due to their balanced squad and the addition of experienced international stars. Islamabad United, however, remain dangerous with their aggressive batting lineup and Shadab’s leadership.
