TIMERGARA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) leader and former federal communications minister Mufti Asad Mahmood has criticised both the provincial and federal governments, saying they are neglecting public issues.

Addressing ‘Fuzala Conference’ organized by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Lower Dir chapter in Talash on Thursday, he said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was facing a serious shortage of educational facilities and that millions of children were deprived of education.

He said the religious seminaries were facing difficulties in registration despite fulfilling all legal requirements.Mufti Asad Mahmood said that valuable lives were being lost due to insecurity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but the rulers appear to be silent spectators only.

He added that the provincial government was entangled in political matters instead of addressing the real problems faced by the public. He came down hard on the government for not granting powers and funds to local government institutions, saying that the province’s debt burden was increasing, corruption scandals were emerging, and poverty was rising.

Mufti Asad said that despite limited representation in parliament, his party strongly opposed inappropriate amendments and ensured the protection of religious seminaries. He added that his party believed in public welfare rather than power politics and will continue to support positive initiatives.

He urged religious scholars to bring about positive change in society through their conduct and actions, stating that knowledge without practice had no value. He said that scholars were the inheritors of the mission of prophet Muhammad and should therefore present themselves as examples of high moral character.

The conference was also addressed by JUIF district Lower Dir head Maulana Sirajuddin, general secretary Maulana Muhammad Huzaifa, ex-provincial minister Muzaffar Said advocate and others.
