ISLAMABAD: Noor Zaman stunned world No 14 and eighth seed Leonel Cardenas (MEX) in straight games to make it to the quarterfinals of the Optasia Championships underway in England.
Pakistan’s rising star defeated Leonel Cardenas (MEX) (3-0) 11-7, 11-5, 11-7 in pre-quarters.
Earlier, in the first round, Noor Zaman defeated Egyptian Amazon Hesham (Egypt) in a hard-fought five-game thriller 11-4, 7-11, 11-3, 12-14, 11-2. Noor will take on World No. 3 Diego Elias (PER) in the quarter-finals.
