LAHORE: Consistently one of the most formidable sides in recent years, Multan Sultans enter the Pakistan Super League Season 11 with high expectations despite a shift in leadership. With Australia’s Ashton Turner taking over the captaincy, the Sultans will look to maintain their reputation as one of the most organised and result-oriented teams in the league.

Multan Sultans have built a strong identity around disciplined cricket, efficient bowling strategies, and a reliable batting unit. Even with changes in personnel, the franchise continues to emphasize structure and consistency.

The batting line-up features experienced names such as Shan Masood and Australia’s Steve Smith, both known for their ability to anchor innings. The inclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe adds attacking flair at the top.

The all-round department includes players like Mohammad Nawaz and emerging talent Arafat Minhas, providing depth in both batting and bowling. On the bowling side, Multan boast a strong combination of pace and spin, led by experienced campaigners such as Mohammad Wasim Jr and veteran Australian seamer Peter Siddle. The spin attack is bolstered by South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi, who brings wicket-taking ability in the middle overs. Ashton Turner’s leadership will be under focus as he takes charge of a side known for its consistency. His finishing ability with the bat and experience in T20 leagues make him a valuable asset, but his captaincy in PSL conditions will be closely watched.

Shan Masood remains a key figure at the top, providing stability and anchoring the innings. Steve Smith’s inclusion adds immense experience and tactical awareness, though his adaptability to high-tempo T20 cricket will be tested.

Josh Philippe offers aggression in the powerplay, while Sahibzada Farhan provides additional top-order options. The middle order, however, lacks proven finishers, which could be a concern in tight matches. Mohammad Nawaz continues to be a vital all-rounder, contributing with both bat and ball. Youngsters like Arafat Minhas and Faisal Akram add variety, particularly in spin-friendly conditions.

The bowling attack is one of Multan’s biggest strengths. Mohammad Wasim Jr’s pace and ability to strike in key moments make him a crucial player, while Peter Siddle’s experience adds control. Tabraiz Shamsi’s wicket-taking ability in the middle overs will be key to restricting opposition totals.

Multan Sultans have been among the most consistent teams in PSL over the past few seasons, frequently reaching finals and maintaining a high win percentage. Their structured approach and ability to execute plans effectively have set them apart from other franchises. However, despite their consistency, converting strong campaigns into titles has not always been straightforward. In recent seasons, they have occasionally faltered in crucial knockout matches, highlighting the need for stronger finishing ability.

Multan Sultans remain strong contenders for PSL 11, but the changes in leadership and squad composition suggest a slightly transitional phase. Their well-rounded bowling attack and experienced batting line-up give them a solid foundation.

Their chances will depend on how quickly the team adapts to new leadership and how effectively the middle order performs under pressure. If key players deliver consistently, Multan can once again challenge for a place in the playoffs.
