ISLAMABAD: The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has condemned sentences handed down by an Indian court to Kashmiri leader Aasiya Andrabi and her associates, calling the verdict “murder of justice”.

In a statement, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Kashmiri women, who have been imprisoned for past eight years in New Delhi’s notorious Tihar Jail, have become lasting symbols of resistance against India’s occupation. He said Indian court awarded Aasiya Andrabi, head of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, three life sentences, describing it as a blatant violation of human rights and a serious injustice. He further said her close associates, Nahida Nasreen and Sofia Fehmeeda, were each sentenced to 30 years in prison, calling it another example of state repression.

Rehman emphasised sacrifices of Kashmiri people would not go in vain and that their struggle for freedom would ultimately reach its logical conclusion. He urged Government of Pakistan to adopt a more proactive and effective diplomatic strategy on Kashmir issue instead of relying on past statements or promises made by US President Donald Trump.
