ISLAMABAD: In a move to fortify international law enforcement cooperation, Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Dr Usman Anwar on Wednesday hosted British High Commissioner Jane Marriott at the agency’s headquarters.
The meeting served as a strategic platform for both nations to reaffirm their commitment to tackling transnational crime and enhancing technical synergy between their respective security apparatuses. During the dialogue, Dr Usman highlighted the importance of modernized policing and the FIA’s ongoing efforts to secure Pakistan’s borders against irregular migration and human trafficking. He noted that the evolving nature of global crime necessitates a more fluid exchange of intelligence and a unified front in digital forensics and financial investigations. He expressed his appreciation for the longstanding partnership with the United Kingdom, suggesting that deepened institutional ties would yield significant results in maintaining regional stability.
Jane emphasized that the security of one nation is intrinsically linked to the stability of the other. She underscored the UK’s willingness to provide continued support in capacity building and the sharing of best practices to counter organized crime networks. She pointed out that the collaboration extends beyond traditional law enforcement, aiming to create a more robust framework for information sharing that can preemptively address emerging threats.
The discussion concluded with both parties agreeing to implement joint initiatives focused on streamlining border security protocols and enhancing the professional training of officers. By aligning their strategic objectives, Pakistan and the United Kingdom aim to create a more resilient barrier against criminal syndicates operating across borders, marking a significant step forward in the bilateral security relationship between Islamabad and London.
